THE ROLE OF VISUAL ARTS
Whenever we hear the term visual art, what do we understand by that? Visual art is the application of creativity, skills and imagination. It materializes in different art forms. There are many visual art forms such as drawing, painting, sculpturing, ceramic art, printmaking, photography, filmmaking, and architecture. Applied art forms such domains as industrial design, interior design, fashion design, gaphic design and decorative art etc. Many artistic disciplines also involve aspects of the visual arts as well as arts of other types and it changes from time to time
Art is a term which can be anything around us (including food & music etc ). However, visual art represents the only forms which can be enjoyed by seeing, such as painting, sculpture. These days, we use visual art in many ways such as Landscapers use visual art in most of their work, Website Designers use visual art a lot in putting together content and eye-catching website. Visual art is also used in designing posters, book covers, food packages, clothing, apparel, jewelry, and a whole lot more.
VISUAL ARTS AS A TOOL IN FORMATION OF THE SOCIETY
Visual art brings a powerful influence in forming communities, locally as well as globally. Artists often challenge the common ways of thinking (layman thinking) with their innovative ideas. Artists often talk about the socio-political issues through their art works, break down the barriers to cross the cultural understanding and global communication, and provide us with a different view point to see a particular thing. Visual art can be found in numerous things that we encounter in our day to day lives.
“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.”
- Thomas Merton
VISUAL ART AS AN EXPRESSION
Visual arts have been used as a means to capture and express a wide array of values, beliefs, and ideas embraced by people from around the world throughout different periods of history. Visual arts have been used to educate, persuade, protest, commemorate, and at times in problem solving as well. In fact, unknowingly we are dependent upon various forms of visual arts to make sense of the world we live in. Visual arts not only provide pleasure and creative inspiration, but they also help in bringing the important issues to notice which would not be paid attention to otherwise.
VISUAL ART AS AN INSPIRATION
The other significant role of Visual Art is that it expresses the emotions and struggles of the society that exists within, and inspires us to cope up and overcome the same through the art.
Visual Arts plays a big role in encouraging us to search through the “fragments and bigger pieces” of our world and to put together the different pieces in ways which allow us to explore, describe, contemplate, manipulate and bring them to life. It is our social and emotional responsibility to ensure people have access to the Visual Arts, as through its exposure they can discover forms of expression and exploration, which might one day assist people to define who and or what they are, or add to our cultural depth. Think about the world without art; No music, no movies, no paintings, etc the world would be a very dull place to live in. Perhaps the only things that we will be seeing would be black and white; No laughter, no smiles, practically no emotions at all. We can say that the visual art is a form of life itself, because the way we perceive the surroundings and how we appreciate it, that is art and we actually live with it every day. Art is kind of bridge that brings together gaps in our society, it provides the connection between man and nature.
“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls”
- Pablo Picasso
What is art? And how art helps in enhancing our lives Art is often considered the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions. Could art be anything as it is in the nature itself? As Art can’t be defined easily, its definition varies from person to person. Many argue that art cannot be defined. We could go about this in several ways.
Art is a different language
Art has been used for healing purpose since ages, and in the last few years, we have seen the benefits of art making for personal growth as well as the means of self-expressions. Art is everywhere, people tend to not understand the value of things until they can relate them to everyday lives. Art can help us in visualizing our life as we want it to be.
Arts helps us to express our emotions
Art as a whole can change our life; it makes us creative, gives us positivity and has the potential to change our mood. It depends on the person too, that how they are taking the art. As art can’t be defined, it could be anything to anyone. Everything in our life is begins with the term “ART”.
Art, in any form can give people emotions that can uplift their spirit and make them more driven. We are always surrounded with art, whether it’s a painting, a music piece, a sculpture, or even videos and that can have huge impact on our moods and expressions. Perspective can be different, as somebody could just love and understand the abstract artwork, but some can’t. Art is different from other fields as it can be so abstract or very representational when wanted. It gives people the ability to communicate their thoughts and express their feelings in a way that is different from any other kind of communication. Art is also an excellent form for venting our anger and frustration without adversely affecting our mental state or people around us. It is very therapeutic when used in this manner or for dealing with depression.
Art helps us in changing our perspective
Through art we gain a better perspective about the culture in which we are living in, and helps in understanding the history and tradition. Helps in understanding the value of culture, which is lacking our society nowadays. When we are exposed to art throughout in our life, we learn a lot about the world. We may be surprised by how much our character has changed. To put it in a simple sentence, Art is a way for artists to show how they appreciate the nature around them.
Art helps in enhancing our lives
Art enhances our lives in almost every aspect of living. We could start it with the home décor that we do, the food we cook (As cooking is also an art), the color of the dress we wear, everything enhances our lives. So a painting does the same thing if it is placed on the wall, or ceramic vase does the same thing. Art makes life worthwhile, as it does make life joyful. It allows every moment to be memorable if we are an artist or we are just an art lover.
Art, can affect our mood in a more positive method, making us feel happier, calmer or even inspired to do something, it’s a very powerful thing. Art is in nature, it does not show people what to do, yet engaging with a good work of art can connect you to your senses, body, and mind. It can make the world felt.
Art is created by specific artists living in and fashioned by a specific culture, and it helps to understand this culture if we are to understand and appreciate the totality of the work.
“If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him… We must never forget that art is not a form of propaganda; it is a form of truth.”
- John F. Kennedy
