Akshay Verma is a highly perceptive artist creating visions that depict the various emotions and personalities he encounters in his everyday life. Based in Ghaziabad (near Delhi, India), Verma hails from Bihar and has more than 15 years of painting experience. A self-taught painter, Verma started his journey with a sudden turn from being a storehouse manager in Nigeria to working as a full time creative independent artist, having immense support from his family and a ceaseless vision for creation. Verma’s artwork is a mix of figurative abstract and visionary themes that invites the viewer to explore and brood the topic much like the artist himself does before creating the piece.
Verma works from his studio in Ghaziabad and is a very dedicated creator, with his artistic eye always open for the world, to see it, observe and reflect the visions that he finds interesting. Verma observes the people around him, with their unique behaviors, emotions and lives that are food for his creative eye. He depicts these themes and aided by his wisdom, creates beautiful psychedelic and surrealistic pieces, usually with a symmetrical composition full of rich colors and textures. His art is a metaphor for the society, urging the viewer to look within and understand the nature of the least talked about issues, opening up new perspectives.
The artist receives a constant stream of inspiration from all facets of life, be it the human behaviour, psychology and philosophy of the people around him or a random conversation. The interactions he has with the people and the world around him create an image in his mind, urging him to project this image onto the canvas in his unique style. The figures in his images are abstract and absolute, with their colors as expressive as their posture. The artist uses obscure elements to paint a thoughtful image, using a strong compositional structure to create beautifully rendered images. The figures invoke wonder with their swirling texture that adds to the hypnotic feel of his creations.
An artist who needs nothing more than to simply express himself through his art, Akshay sees himself as a mirror of the society he lives in and wants his art to act as a social commentary for the society and an emotional outlet for himself.
