Sanjay Ashtaputre

Sanjay Ashtaputre

Sanjay is a Hyderabadi artist who originally hails from the state of Maharashtra. An adept figurative artist who has worked as an illustrator for many years, Sanjay is a wizard who paints magic through his unique abstract figurative artworks that offer windows into beautiful worlds of his own vibrant imagination. Sanjay began his artistic education in Applied Art, working as a creative for ad agencies and eventually creating his own, and illustrating more than 60 comic books for children in New Delhi till 1994, post which he dedicated his time to Painting as a full time artist.

Since his learning days, paintings attracted his attention and he always had a voice for art. Being an exemplary figurative artist, his talent helped him become a self-taught Painter and his visual voice led him towards awards and accomplishments early on in his career, having been awarded by esteemed personalities like N.S. Bendre.

Sanjay’s artistic visions took him on a journey from realistic art to more visually challenging and expressive outlets where he dabbled in pure abstraction and eventually combined his love for figurative style with his abstract approach. What was born is the purely expressive and vivacious delight that Sanjay’s paintings bring to his viewers.

According to Ashtaputre, an artwork need not offer a clear narrative, but speak for itself through its unique visual language. Sanjay feels the connection and interpretation of art which stems from a dynamic viewer-artwork relation is the most authentic and important part of enjoying an artwork, something that words cannot compare. Just like his own relation with the paintings which offer him new meanings every time; Sanjay’s art has the unique potential of offering infinite meanings and dimensions to be discovered within itself.

The sublime creations of Ashtaputre bring about a flood of meanings and emotions, with his distinctive color palette and aesthetic arrangement of elements, Sanjay carefully brings to life an entire world of his own imagination. A dedicated musician and artist, Sanjay has been playing Sitar since over 18 years, and his knowledge of the two art forms brings to his canvas a musical quality that breathes rhythm, harmony and that fills the hearts of the viewer with tranquillity and wonder. His abstract depictions contain stories and themes of togetherness, love and wonder all wrapped in a creative and scintillating aura of beauty, whether it is his Couple series or his female figures indulged in their own world.

Sanjay creates pieces that bring joy to the viewer’s mind and surroundings, aided by his jubilant color choice and use of natural elements that resemble the awe inspiring beauty of Nature. His composition is strong and compels attention of the viewer, leaving its impression with its subject matter that bridges the gap between human existence and nature, combining the two in stunning visual symphonies that stay with you long after the immediate experience.
